The best entries will be published by Fygleaves Publishing in a compilation of the best stories from our 2007 and 2008 competitions.

Get a feel for the stories we publish by readng our 2006 anthology 39 Emergency Exits

Fygleaves Publishing exists to provide practical opportunities for unpublished writers as authors revealing their leaves to the world.

We are looking for stories that link the five pictures in an imaginative way. The best stories will be short-listed and then posted on this website for online appraisal by readers.

The winner will receive our 2008 cash prize of £150

Closing Date for entries: 1st March 2008

How to enter

1) Write a short story, of no more than 1200 words, linking the 5 pictures above in an imaginative way. Longer stories of up to 8000 words will also be considered for publication but will not be eligible for short-listing and the cash prize. In addition, all entrants are eligible for discounted membership of our Pioneer Readers group.

2) Send your submission to our competition address below, as BOTH an attachment AND text pasted as the body of the email, with the email also to include a declaration that the material is solely your own copyright, along with your name, year of birth, full address, and contact telephone number; only one entry is permitted per participant. Submissions not sent according to these requirements may not qualify for entry. These details will not be circulated to any commercial party.

3) Your submission is acknowledgement of all of the following conditions. Copyright is retained by you although Fygleaves will retain an indefinite right to make the story or extracts from the story available to readers on our website and will be entitled to first publishing rights for all stories chosen for publication: Fygleaves will select stories for inclusion in an anthology of the best entries, to be published in 2008.

4) Deadline for receipt of submissions is 11.59pm (UK time) on 1st March 2008. The short-list of up to a maximum of six stories will be announced by the end of March 2008.

5) Entrants will be notified by 31st July 2008 whether Fygleaves will retain first publishing rights for their story. Stories may be lightly edited prior to publication, in consultation with the writer where this is possible. Each story included in our book will be published with the author's name and hometown, although a pseudonym may be chosen if desired.

6) The winner will be notified by 31st August 2008, and will receive a cheque for our £150 first prize: the winner's name and hometown will be announced on our website.

7) The judgment and decisions of the Director(s) of FYGLEAVES LTD, registered UK company number 5208760, with regard to all aspects of this competition will be final.
